The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is helping to address drinking water infrastructure needs throughout Michigan with the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan program. The DWSRF program is designed to assist water suppliers in satisfying requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and improving drinking water quality by offering low-interest loans. Water suppliers who own either a community water supply or a non-community water supply that operates as a non-profit (which typically would need to bond through another eligible entity) can qualify to receive DWSRF assistance. This week marks the ten-year anniversary of VK Civil. On August 30, 2011, Rod Korhorn and Nate Vriesman began operating from Nate’s unfinished basement. There was not a lot of work in Michigan because of the “Great Recession,” and Rod and Nate did not know how their past and prospective clients would react. “My back-up plan was to deliver pizzas,” said Nate smiling. “Each of us had young families which made it a stressful decision.” Within a couple of months Byron, Gaines, and Jamestown Townships decided that they would use VK Civil for their civil engineering services. We are very excited to announce the opening of a Kalamazoo office! It is located at 4664 Campus Drive in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In late January Dan Lewis joined our team and is leading this effort. We are expanding our geographic footprint and will be providing municipal engineering services to Southwest Michigan.
